From the reviews

Being a member of the Columbia Tai Chi and Kung Fu Center has been a truly wonderful experience. Whether I'm looking to de-stress and wind down for the day with Tai Chi or if I'm looking to put in a good work out and learn self-defense through Kung Fu, I am always excited to go to class.

★★★★★ — Rebecca, Aug 2016

I'm very glad that I found this place so nearby to me. An opportunity to explore an art form while improving physical and mental health is exactly what I need. Each day I look forward to my next class, and I am excited to learn new material and improve myself.

★★★★★ — Louis, Jan 2018

My son has been attending the kids Kung Fu classes for around 6 months and absolutely loves them. He really has become a calmer more confident kid both at home and at school. Within the first month Kung Fu became his favorite activity, and so far has shown no signs of that changing.

★★★★★ — Nate, Aug 2017

My time at the Columbia Tai Chi and Kung Fu Center has been great and rewarding. A cyclic and steady teaching structure directed by an honest and knowledgeable teacher allows for a realistic development of skill at martial arts. Plus, it's fun as hell.

Your first tai chi class at Balance Martial Arts

Nervous about walking into a tai chi class for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good instructors expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a gentle warm-up, then learning a few slow movements of the form, step by step — no pressure to get it perfect, and you can rest or sit whenever you need to. What to wear: loose, comfortable clothing you can move in, and flat, flexible shoes (some studios practice in socks or bare feet). What to bring: water, and that's about it — there's no equipment to buy. Arrive a few minutes early to say hello to the instructor and mention it's your first class. It comes together faster than you'd think — most people feel far more at ease by their second or third visit.

Tai chi is gentle and low-impact, but it's still exercise, and the health notes here are general information, not medical advice. If you have any injuries or health concerns, mention them to the instructor before class, and check with your doctor before starting a new exercise program.
