From the reviews
Nearly 2 years ago, while recovering from a back injury, I witnessed a Tai Chi demonstration at my son’s school during their Chinese New Year celebration. I returned home and immediately began searching for Tai Chi classes in my area.
One thing that really caught me is that unlike most modern schools that claim to be kung fu schools, Sifu Saleem's Lam Tang Gar Academy clearly outlines the history and lineage of his kung fu in the fields that he teaches.
Lam Tang Kung Fu Academy has it all under one roof. Traditional Chinese Martial Arts like Hung Kuen Kung Fu, Hasayfu Kung Fu, and Iron Palm training. Internal Arts like Wu, Yang & Sun style Tai Chi, Bagua, Xing Yi, and Qi Gong. Sifu Saleem opened Columbia's first Kung Fu school over 30 years ago.
Traditional curriculum of Chinese Martial Arts. School focuses on health, longevity, combat, and lineage. Not a "fighting for sport" school. Solid academy offering kung fu, tai chi chaun, and qi gong teachings.
Your first tai chi class at Lam Tang Kung Fu Academy
Nervous about walking into a tai chi class for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good instructors expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a gentle warm-up, then learning a few slow movements of the form, step by step — no pressure to get it perfect, and you can rest or sit whenever you need to. What to wear: loose, comfortable clothing you can move in, and flat, flexible shoes (some studios practice in socks or bare feet). What to bring: water, and that's about it — there's no equipment to buy. Arrive a few minutes early to say hello to the instructor and mention it's your first class. It comes together faster than you'd think — most people feel far more at ease by their second or third visit.
