From the reviews

For context: I am 13 years old and I have tried out many forms of martial arts over the span of 6 years. I am a first degree black belt in Taekwondo and I was close to receive second degree before the pandemic hit. Now I attend Shao Long Academy. Attending Shao Long Academy has been an amazing and great experience!

★★★★★ — Charlie, Jun 2022

I first came to Shao Long Academy because just from what I could tell online, this place held the most authority. Shifu Lei is exceptionally professional and I have enjoyed coming here for Taichi in the mornings for some months now.

★★★★★ — Jackson, Apr 2025

I have been taking the morning taiji class for a few months now and I have loved every minute of it. Shifu Lei is an amazing instructor, patient and kind. He breaks the movements down in a way that I can understand, he explains the purpose of each movement.

★★★★★ — Jo, Sep 2022

Quality culture and large gongfu facility in Utah. The most respectful atmosphere, the instructors value team camaraderie and dedication in their training. They don’t allow students to put themselves above others in their teachings which is what I look for as a mom and can appreciate the life lessons taught here.

Your first tai chi class at Shao Long Academy of Chinese Martial Arts

Nervous about walking into a tai chi class for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good instructors expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a gentle warm-up, then learning a few slow movements of the form, step by step — no pressure to get it perfect, and you can rest or sit whenever you need to. What to wear: loose, comfortable clothing you can move in, and flat, flexible shoes (some studios practice in socks or bare feet). What to bring: water, and that's about it — there's no equipment to buy. Arrive a few minutes early to say hello to the instructor and mention it's your first class. It comes together faster than you'd think — most people feel far more at ease by their second or third visit.

Tai chi is gentle and low-impact, but it's still exercise, and the health notes here are general information, not medical advice. If you have any injuries or health concerns, mention them to the instructor before class, and check with your doctor before starting a new exercise program.
