Certified instruction — reviews and the studio's own info point to a recognized tai chi program or lineage (think Tai Chi for Health / Dr. Paul Lam, the Taoist Tai Chi Society, or a named family-style teacher). If credentials matter to you, ask which program the instructor is certified in and which style they teach.

From the reviews
I am a relative newbie to Tai Chi, and I could not be more pleased with Jing Ying and with the practice of Tai Chi. Billy Greer is a patient and masterful teacher, and Nancy Greer is the embodiment of community spirit. It is a comfortable place to learn and to proceed at one's own pace.
Jing Ying Institute of Kung Fu and Tai Chi was recommended to me by Dr. Daohe Fang, CMD, a native of China, and a life-long tai chi teacher/practitioner. He and his daughters have trained at Jing Ying, and he is a supporter of their programs.
I have been training at Jing Ying in Kung Fu and Tai Chi for 13 years. You will not find a better teacher than Sifu Billy Greer. He is able to break down complex ideas and challenge you at the same time. There has never been a day when I didn’t learn something new.
Jing Ying – Awesome School… Superior Instructors… Uplifting Energy… Remarkable People!!! My son has been a student at Jing Ying Institute of Kung Fu and Tai Chi for approximately seven (7) years. He started at the school participating in their homeschool P.E.
Your first tai chi class at Jing Ying Institute of Kung Fu & Tai Chi
Nervous about walking into a tai chi class for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good instructors expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a gentle warm-up, then learning a few slow movements of the form, step by step — no pressure to get it perfect, and you can rest or sit whenever you need to. What to wear: loose, comfortable clothing you can move in, and flat, flexible shoes (some studios practice in socks or bare feet). What to bring: water, and that's about it — there's no equipment to buy. Arrive a few minutes early to say hello to the instructor and mention it's your first class. It comes together faster than you'd think — most people feel far more at ease by their second or third visit.
