Certified instruction — reviews and the studio's own info point to a recognized tai chi program or lineage (think Tai Chi for Health / Dr. Paul Lam, the Taoist Tai Chi Society, or a named family-style teacher). If credentials matter to you, ask which program the instructor is certified in and which style they teach.

From the reviews
We travel all the way from Clayton, NC every week to send my 8 & 10 year old to learn from coach Imari and her team. I can't express enough how impressive the lessons are- my kids get an amazing work out, play fun games, learn new skills and push their bodies to try new things!
Highly recommended! From the owners, to the instructors, to the students, every single person we met made us and our teenage son feel welcome, respected, and at ease. Our son went from "I don't want to do this" to "I definitely want to go back and keep doing this" after his first Wing Chun class with Master Alex.
I joined East Cloud with no prior experience in stand-up martial arts, with the intent to get fit post-pandemic and meet folks after I moved to the area. I was blown away by how welcoming Master Imari and her students were at the school.
My family has been taking lessons at East Cloud Kung Fu for the past 4 years! My son (12) loves it! He has learned so much about martial arts, discipline and diverse cultures! Master Imari helps the students develop good habits, techniques and work ethic!
Your first tai chi class at East Cloud Kungfu, LLC
Nervous about walking into a tai chi class for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good instructors expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a gentle warm-up, then learning a few slow movements of the form, step by step — no pressure to get it perfect, and you can rest or sit whenever you need to. What to wear: loose, comfortable clothing you can move in, and flat, flexible shoes (some studios practice in socks or bare feet). What to bring: water, and that's about it — there's no equipment to buy. Arrive a few minutes early to say hello to the instructor and mention it's your first class. It comes together faster than you'd think — most people feel far more at ease by their second or third visit.
