From the reviews

I studied at Chu Tai Chi for several years and was a witness to the physical transformation of students (including myself) who studied nei kung and Tai Chi. There were people who walked in the door literally unable to touch there tows, but after some time of regular practice became physically fit and limber.

Legendary Times Square tai chi school, founded 1973 by Grandmaster C.K. Chu. Responsible for the free tai chi classes offered mornings in Bryant Park from May through September.

I have been a student at the school for over twenty years, taking virtually every course of instruction offered, and have had immeasurable benefit from all of it. Studying with Master Chu was a life-changing experience.

★★★★★ — Norman, Dec 2021

I took a course in Nei Kung, sometimes called "Iron Shirt" practice, from Master Chu in July 1997. It was the smoothest, yet most challenging instruction I had received in years. I am 77 now, and play singles or doubles tennis 3 times per week with folks who are up to 50 years younger than myself.

Your first tai chi class at CK Chu Tai

Nervous about walking into a tai chi class for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good instructors expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a gentle warm-up, then learning a few slow movements of the form, step by step — no pressure to get it perfect, and you can rest or sit whenever you need to. What to wear: loose, comfortable clothing you can move in, and flat, flexible shoes (some studios practice in socks or bare feet). What to bring: water, and that's about it — there's no equipment to buy. Arrive a few minutes early to say hello to the instructor and mention it's your first class. It comes together faster than you'd think — most people feel far more at ease by their second or third visit.

Tai chi is gentle and low-impact, but it's still exercise, and the health notes here are general information, not medical advice. If you have any injuries or health concerns, mention them to the instructor before class, and check with your doctor before starting a new exercise program.
