From the reviews
This class is wonderful! Taiji classes I have taken before were intimidating and form-focused only. This class is fully accessible physically and mentally, making profound information easy to understand.
I've greatly enjoyed the Taiji beginning class at CUTQ. One of the things that is great about it is that it's done slowly enough, with lots of repetition, so that it becomes possible to learn it. Both Scott (the main teacher) and Chris (who also helps with the teaching) are patient and encouraging, which really helps.
If you are interested in starting a Taiji practice, consider taking classes with CUTQ. You will develop flexibility and balance, meet great people, and go home refreshed and relaxed. I highly recommend the beginning class.
A geat class and a great teacher! Scott's non-judgmental attitude, humility, and sense of humor create a positive environment for practicing and learning. I wish he could offer his introductory class year round.
Your first tai chi class at Champaign Urbana Taiji Qigong (CUTQ)
Nervous about walking into a tai chi class for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good instructors expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a gentle warm-up, then learning a few slow movements of the form, step by step — no pressure to get it perfect, and you can rest or sit whenever you need to. What to wear: loose, comfortable clothing you can move in, and flat, flexible shoes (some studios practice in socks or bare feet). What to bring: water, and that's about it — there's no equipment to buy. Arrive a few minutes early to say hello to the instructor and mention it's your first class. It comes together faster than you'd think — most people feel far more at ease by their second or third visit.
