The knowledge and teaching that Sifu offers is world class. People like Sifu don’t come into your life often, when they do. Listen and learn. His teachings are transformative and life altering. I highly encourage anyone looking to experience this amazing art form to visit for a class. It is worth it.
Sifu Tommy Cheng teachesTai Chi “Striking Hands” which can be traced back to the founder of Yang style Tai Chi; Yang Luk Chien who used it to earn the fame of ”Yang the Invincible” and made Tai Chi famous in Piking about 180 years ago. “Striking Hands” consists of two parts. The first part is to stick & hit.
Tai Chi is a misnomer! Tai Chi Chuen is the full name for this martial art! The Grand Ultimate FIST! This means it is a fighting art. After 10 years and thousands of dollars searching for a Sifu versed in the fighting aspects of the art I stumbled uponSifu Tommy... in Gretna!!! This is it for me!! Real!!!
Sifu Tommy is a wonderful man and incredible martial artist. Learning Tai Chi, Qinna, striking, throws, and much more has been such a privilege. If you have time to meet him or take a class, I highly recommend it.
Your first tai chi class at The Real Tai Chi - Yee Chuen Do
Nervous about walking into a tai chi class for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good instructors expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a gentle warm-up, then learning a few slow movements of the form, step by step — no pressure to get it perfect, and you can rest or sit whenever you need to. What to wear: loose, comfortable clothing you can move in, and flat, flexible shoes (some studios practice in socks or bare feet). What to bring: water, and that's about it — there's no equipment to buy. Arrive a few minutes early to say hello to the instructor and mention it's your first class. It comes together faster than you'd think — most people feel far more at ease by their second or third visit.
