Certified instruction — reviews and the studio's own info point to a recognized tai chi program or lineage (think Tai Chi for Health / Dr. Paul Lam, the Taoist Tai Chi Society, or a named family-style teacher). From the reviews
I have been in Tim’s Jingui Golden Shield qigong class for about seven years. It has had a profoundly transformative effect on my overall confidence , well-being, and outlook in life. I know that it has given me more embodiment, groundedness, and strength to live in the so-called modern world.
An amazing practice with almost guaranteed results for becoming stronger in every way. I have been practicing with Tim for 8 months now and can't say enough how valuable this practice is.
I’ve been practicing Qigong now with Tim for three years and I can honestly say it’s the strongest I’ve ever mentally and physically have felt. It has helped me to calm the energy in my body and to be able to focus it where I need it to go. Tim is an incredible instructor!
Very friendly and supportive atmosphere, very supportive and patient instructor. Definitely a good place to both practice Golden Shield Qi Gong as well as learn more about your health.
Your first tai chi class at Austin Jingui Golden Shield Qi Gong
Nervous about walking into a tai chi class for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good instructors expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a gentle warm-up, then learning a few slow movements of the form, step by step — no pressure to get it perfect, and you can rest or sit whenever you need to. What to wear: loose, comfortable clothing you can move in, and flat, flexible shoes (some studios practice in socks or bare feet). What to bring: water, and that's about it — there's no equipment to buy. Arrive a few minutes early to say hello to the instructor and mention it's your first class. It comes together faster than you'd think — most people feel far more at ease by their second or third visit.
