Tai Chi Translated
Grandmaster Li and I were speaking about chi one day and he expressed and elucidated
me with his simple but practical explanation. “Although chi translates as energy
into English, it is also known as ‘prana’ or ‘ki’. My Chinese teachers emphasized
that everything has chi. The bones, the brain, the muscles, the organs – all body
systems have their own amount of chi. It is important for the teacher to recognize
the student’s chi and help them cultivate it to it’s highest level. Some students
are born to be scholars, others athletes, others musicians – we all have our inner
gifts or areas where our energy is more abundant.
Those are the areas we should focus our energy and work to be the very best we can
be.”
Often in America, students are so busy memorizing things that they have a hard time
finding things they are good at. The study of Tai Chi and martial arts in general
can help to cultivate the linking energy of b.ody e.nergy a.nd m.ind so they can
have more confidence in trying new things and exploring new and different interests.
Even the Toltec author Carlos Castaneda speaks about how everyone has his or her
own level of energy and that everything we do rests on our personal power. As we
practice taichi and chi gung, we free up energy that has been trapped through emotional,
mental and physical tension and it allows us to see other possibilities and options
that were unavailable when “stressed out”. The very popular movie, “What the Bleep
Do We Know?” is giving audiences new insights into this energy system that is comprised
of body and spirit. It is revealing some of the great secrets of quantum mechanics
and showing how through INTENTIONALITY along with our PERCEPTION and Behavioral Choices,
we are co creating our world every instant, every day. It explains from a scientific
point of view how “energy (faith) the size of a mustard seed can move mountains”.
As tai chi players, it is our quest to reach deep inside ourselves and learn to cultivate
this energy on all levels of our being and find the language to help inspire and
encourage others on this path with heart and help them find and cultivate this sometimes
elusive inner chi.
Cultivate your knowledge, your power, your inner harmony and love so you can navigate
the roles and worlds of your life with vitality, energy and spirit along with compassion
and fellowship of light, lightness and love minded people!
“For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound
mind.” 2 Timothy 1:8
